One of the most spectacular venues to have your wedding is without a doubt on the Isle of Iona. Just a small island at the southern tip of Fionnphort on the Isle of Mull, it is a short ferry crossing to the very special and spiritual Isle of Iona which is within the hearts of many people who travel to it from all over the world.
It has been our privilege to photograph weddings on the Isle of Iona on many occasions, from Iona Abbey, the Cloisters, Saint Michael’s Chapel and some of the beaches.
The Isle of Iona has some stunning beaches, spectacular deep blue and turquoise water surrounds pristine white shell sand. There are many beaches like this at the north and western end of the island such as Traigh ant-Suidhe or Traigh Bhan, though as there is no vehicular access a short walk is required. A particular favourite is St Ronans Bay which is easily accessible and ideally placed near to the jetty.

It was in 563AD that St Columba was exiled from Ireland, and brought Christianity to the Isle of Iona and this place of learning soon spread throughout Europe and as a result became a major site of pilgrimage, as it still is today.
The Isle of Iona presently houses a Benedictine Abbey which was built in 1203. Sadly after the Reformation, many buildings were demolished including 367 carved crosses – only three survived.
The Abbey on the Isle of Iona is now a Ecumenical Church and it brings visitors and pilgrims from all walks of life to visit. In the ancient burial ground it is believed that there are 48 Scottish Kings, 8 Norwegian Kings and 4 Irish Kings buried there.
If you are thinking of getting married on Iona and looking for an Isle of Iona photographer we will be only too pleased to hear from you to discuss your wedding photography requirements, please contact Phil or Helen on 01680 812187 or use our Contact Form, thank you.
