Vibrant colours – Abstract Photography

colourful-turkey-photo-collection-1

Although it has been some time since our last trip to Turkey I came across this small collection of images whilst I was looking for something else. The lasting memories for me when visiting this thriving market was the smell of spices, the noise and the fantastic vibrant colours.

I took this set of purely abstract images to capture and portray just some of these vibrant colours.

Yes these images of vibrant colours could have been taken almost anywhere. To me that is not the point. It is one of the joys of photography that our images are not only visual but act as a catalyst, jogging our memories into recalling our emotions along with the other things that were happening at the time of taking the shot.

“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.”

Maya Angelou (American Poet – born 1928)

Collection of seaweed abstracts

seaweed-header-1

All these seaweed abstracts were photographed exactly as they were found shortly after a receding tide. The light was perfect, a bright day with thin cloud cover producing almost shadowless lighting for best colour and detail.

I really enjoy this kind of photography and this selection of seaweed abstracts are taken from a larger collection that formed a personal project.

These naturally occurring shapes appeal to me, they allow my imagination to wander, looking beyond what they are and toward what they could represent, I would be interested to to hear your view. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome and would be appreciated.

Tidal sand patterns – Photography

sand-and-buoy-pattern-abstract-2

Tidal sand patterns can be beautiful though harsh sunlight is not always suitable for these subjects. However, for creating abstract images from naturally occurring tidal sand patterns it can be just perfect though it is best if the sun is fairly low in the sky to elongate the shadows.

As seen in the small selection of images below taken on a beach near Knockvologen on the Isle of Mull the harshness of the light increases the contrast to show every small undulation in these tidal sand patterns. These patterns are all around, it is just a question of selecting a suitably pleasing and interesting composition.

In a couple of the images there is a buoy that had washed up on the beach, the ebbing tide has created additional, localised patterns around it that works nicely into the composition.

Natural Abstract and Pattern Collection

Abstract water pattern

Here is Part 2 of our natural abstract and pattern collection. Finding natural abstract and patterns in nature is not all that difficult. Though to derive the most pleasure it requires an open mind with an almost childlike curiosity and imagination.

Abstract and Pattern Photos

Abstract pattern 1

Abstract and pattern photos are possible to find in nature by simply isolating part of a larger scene to create a rewarding image collection.

Nurturing a vision to see the less than obvious nature photography opportunities is one of the surest ways not only improve your nature photography but to expand and deepen your portfolio.

We often take our surroundings for granted so these opportunities can require a little effort and imagination to find, my approach is to seek them out with an open mind, inquisitiveness and childlike wonder. Nature has provided us with an endless variety of potential abstract and pattern photos that will offer a different view on our world, look to simplify the subject into a series of shapes composed of lines, curves and circles.

With such a rich and diverse array of opportunities even the most inquisitive amongst us can find photographic satisfaction.

Abstract and Pattern Photos
A rushing stream in autumn provided all the necessary ingredients for this abstract, the flowing water and the rich reflected colours of autumn have created a very ‘fluid’ combination.

Abstract and Pattern Photos
A close up image of a Pieris ‘Forest Flame’, by going close it simplifies the composition and creates an abstract pattern.

Abstract and Pattern Photos
Fairly obvious this one, sand patterns left behind after the water has receded down the beach. To me these patterns suggest energy and motion that reflect both the fluidity and continuity of the ebbing tide.

Abstract and Pattern Photos
Create abstract images simply by excluding recogniseable items from the view, concentrate purely on pattern. Ice patterns are some of my favourite winter photography subjects, they offer diversity and literally capture a moment frozen in time. Depending on the prevailing weather conditions some offer display harsh jagged lines whilst others offer graceful smooth curves as in this image.

Abstract and Pattern Photos
Water, reed bed and more water, again by isolating just a part of the whole this is now purely an abstract image. An incredibly simple linear composition that relies entirely on shape and colour to form this graphic image.

Natural Abstract and Pattern Photos – Part 2 will be available in a couple of days.
